Tiempo (Timelines)
Tools to help visualize the chronological history of the Marianas and Greater Micronesia.
In the CHamoru/Chamorro worldview, much like other Native Pacific Islander cultures, time is perceived as circular rather than linear. The multiple meanings of the Chamorro term mo’na, which can be used to describe something in “front” or “before”, can offer clues about the way that Chamorro ancestors thought about time and space. In the Chamorro worldview, the past, present, and the future are seen as linked together in a circle. This reminds us to learn from and honor our ancestors, while being mindful of what we will pass on to future generations. In this section, you can access tools to visualize the history of the Marianas and Greater Micronesia, and learn more about Chamorro ways of thinking about time and organizing history.
