Jennifer Craig

Author

Dr. Jennifer Craig’s background is in the underwater cultural heritage of the Asia Pacific, or Oceanic Region. As a Québécoise maritime archaeologist, Craig seeks to understand and interpret the relationship between human and water interactions. She intersects indigenous feminist theory, archaeology material science, and traditional knowledge to decolonize collections-based and archival research into transformative community education.

Craig’s work evokes heart-centered archaeology practices. These practices involve working with community to expand stories in the webs of relations of past experiences to include nature, the spirit(s) of place, and the other-than-human beings with traditional and scientific rigor to create accessible education products. This is explained in her forthcoming book Watery Connection through Compassion: How Maritime Archaeology Promotes Community Involvement, which is set to be published by Berghahn Books.

In addition to her formal education degrees in archaeology and anthropology, Craig is a voyager and has learned deeply from immersive experiences.
