Emma is currently a graduate student at the University of Guam working towards a master’s degree in biology. She works in the Phycology Lab under the advisership of Dr. Tom Schils. Her thesis project focuses on developing 3D models of coral reefs in Guam and estimating their levels of calcium carbonate production. Through this work, she hopes to develop a tool that allows natural resource managers to approximate the health and growth of our reefs. She earned her BS in Biology with a minor in Spanish from Grand Valley State University in 2022 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her research interests have always focused on community ecology, ranging from mammalian paleo-communities to arctic moss and lichen communities and now to coral reef algal communities.
