Julian Aguon
Author
Julian Aguon received his B.A. in sociology from Gonzaga University in 2004. He is currently a law student at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa and will graduate in May 2009.
Aguon is an indigenous son of Guam, a writer, human rights activist and speaker throughout the Asia-Pacific region. He writes against the aggressive militarization and corporatization of Guam, as he is convinced these forces of globalization threaten to destroy those life-affirming values that bind and sustain indigenous communities. His two books, Just Left of the Setting Sun and The Fire This Time: Essays on Life Under U.S. Occupation were published in 2005 and 2006, respectively. His third book, What we Bury At Night, was released in Guam in December 2007, and nationally in February 2008.
In October 2007, GU magazine honored him as ‘The Advocate’ in its most influential people campaign. He represented Guam at the United Nations decolonization hearings in 2005 and 2006. Augon is a graduate of Simon Sanchez High School, Guam.
